The Packing Shed is available for use by various organisations,
including local charities, as well as individuals, for a variety of
outdoor activities including overnight camping, birdwatching, art classes,
birthday parties, wedding receptions and special occasions. Parties of up
to about 100 people can be accommodated and The Company Shed can provide
seafood lunches on these occasions.

PACKING SHED TRUST
(Registered Charity No.1040239)
Rules for the use of the Shed and the Island
-
Access is not always easy. Appropriate
footwear should be worn at all times and care should be taken not to muddy
the interior of the shed. Children must be carefully supervised at all
times.
-
The Trust’s helmsmen will hold a key to
the main door of the shed. If necessary however, after giving prior
notice one can be borrowed from the Company Shed.
-
Smoking and naked flames are not
permitted at any time anywhere in or near the shed because of its
flammable structure. Cooking may be carried out using the microwave and
water boiler only. Bar-B-Qs are permitted at a safe distance from the
shed and must be supervised at ALL
times.
-
There are three fire extinguishers and a
fire blanket in the shed and users should familiarise themselves with
their locations and instructions for use.
-
All users must respect the fragile
nature of the ecology of the island. During the nesting season (April to
June) birds and their nests should not be approached. “Nests” are often
no more than a scrape or hollow in a pebble or shell bank, just above the
summer high tide line and are not obvious.
-
The Union Jack should be hoisted on the
flagpole to signify approved use of the shed. The flag should be lowered
and replaced in the shed prior to departure. All doors and windows must
be fastened securely before departure and the shed left in good and clean
condition.
-
Users must provide their own rubbish
bags and take all rubbish back to the mainland for disposal.
-
Any damage to the shed or island should
be reported to the Trust.
-
A toilet is provided – if any attention
to it is required, the Trust should be informed.
-
The water available for the toilet is
rainwater and NOT suitable for
drinking or even for the washing of hands. Users should provide their own
fresh water for these purposes. There is a water tap at the hammerhead
from which containers may be filled.
-
A First Aid Kit is provided in the shed.
-
Please do not walk on or permit children
to play on the granite stone bunds - they are for defence against sea
erosion.
